A surgical procedure to help expose the root from the gums.
Sometimes, permanent teeth will not erupt from the gums as they should and will get trapped, totally or partially, under the gum tissue. This commonly happens with wisdom teeth, however canine teeth can also become impacted. When this occurs, your orthodontist will recommend exposure of the tooth. Our oral surgeon will surgically expose the tooth through minor surgery. The surgery consists of making an incision in the gum and manipulating it with sutures to expose the impacted tooth. You will then be sent back to your orthodontist, who will attached a dental appliance to guide the tooth in for proper alignment so that orthodontic treatment can be completed.
